“Steff, what are your thoughts on *insert the latest weight loss trend here*?”

When someone asks me for my opinion on the latest weight loss trend, I tell them how I think it would work for me. Meal replacement shakes, pills, juice cleanses, injections, etc., are all popular methods people try. It’s easy to get lost in the weeds regarding results and research because there is so much information out there, both pro and con. However, actually doing anything solely for the sake of weight loss doesn’t work for me – again, that’s just me.

Personal Experience with Weight Loss Focus

I think it’s likely because of the trauma I experienced in my late teens and early 20s. The more I focused on weight loss, the more weight I would gain. Even just typing that sentence puts a pit in my stomach; it was a dark time. Looking back, I can see that my focus was on the wrong thing. My journey then was about finding the quickest way to shed pounds without understanding what my body truly needed. I just wanted to be skinny, and I would have done (and have tried almost everything back then) to achieve it. I felt terribly; mind, body, and soul.

Now, my focus is on input, output, desires, needs, biochemical individuality, age, hormonal shifts, and other factors unique to me. These are the aspects that define my wellness journey. So unless someone is specifically working with me one-on-one, asking for my opinion will be skewed towards my lifestyle according to my experiences.

Health Gain Over Weight Loss

I subscribe to practices like Prolon (the 5-day fast mimicking protocol), AG1, bovine colostrum, collagen peptides, and other things, but not for weight loss – for health gain. Health gain is my primary goal. I want to be able to do the things I want to do, and as a corporate wellness consultant, I work to shift company culture in that direction. So really, my opinion on specific weight loss trends doesn’t matter (unless a trend could damage health), because I am not in the business of weight loss. My passion and purpose is in health gain for a better life, personally and professionally.

Whose Opinions Matter on Your Health Journey?

When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight and overall well-being, there are only two opinions that truly matter:

  1. Your healthcare provider.
  2. You.

Your healthcare provider is equipped with the knowledge and tools to help you navigate your health journey safely and effectively. They, and/or their referral partners, understand the medical intricacies that may affect your weight and health.

And you, because you know your body better than anyone else. You know how you feel, what affects you, and what doesn’t. Your intuition and understanding of your own body are invaluable.

Integrating Holistic and Medical Approaches

Do your research, try holistic suggestions alongside medical interventions (like Thrive 9), and tune into your body. Ensure you are feeling better – physically, mentally, and emotionally – not just dropping pounds. It’s essential to find a balance between various approaches to health and weight management.

For instance, AG1, a comprehensive daily nutrition supplement, is something I personally endorse for its myriad health benefits. It’s not just about weight loss; it’s about nourishing your body to perform at its best. This is a valuable staple in the Pillar Corporate Wellness program that bridges nutrient gaps, reduces brian fog, and even reduces cravings like that 2 pm cup of coffee.

Embrace a Holistic Health Approach

Holistic health means considering the whole person – body, mind, spirit, and emotions – in the quest for optimal health and wellness. According to holistic medicine philosophy, one can achieve optimal health by gaining proper balance in life.

Physical Health

Physical health is, of course, crucial. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep form the foundation. Exercise doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym daily; it could be yoga, walking, swimming, or any activity that you enjoy and that keeps your body moving.

Mental Health

Mental health is equally important. Practices like mindfulness, meditation, and even hobbies that bring you joy contribute significantly to overall well-being. Mental health affects your physical health and vice versa.

Emotional Health

Emotional health involves understanding and respecting your feelings, values, and attitudes. Having a positive outlook and being aware of your thoughts and emotions can help you manage stress and maintain a healthy balance in life.

Practical Steps Towards Holistic Health

  1. Start Small: Begin with small, manageable changes in your routine. This could be as simple as drinking more water or taking a short walk daily.
  2. Mindful Eating: Pay attention to what you eat and how it makes you feel. Opt for nutrient-dense foods that fuel your body.
  3. Regular Check-ups: Keep up with regular medical check-ups to monitor your health and catch any potential issues early.
  4. Self-Care: Make time for activities that you enjoy and that relax you. This could be reading, gardening, or even spending time with loved ones.
  5. Stay Informed: Keep yourself informed about new health trends but critically evaluate them. Not everything that is trending is beneficial for you.

Finding Joy in Your Health Journey

Finally, find joy in life in your ‘person suit’ doing the things you want to do. Your body is the only one you have, and it’s a gift. Cherish it, take care of it, and it will take care of you.

Daily Affirmations and Actions

Ask yourself daily, “What’s one little thing I can do today to make myself feel good?” Then, go do it! Small, positive actions accumulate over time, leading to significant improvements in your health and well-being.

For instance, starting your day with AG1 might just be calling your name. It’s a small step but with substantial benefits, setting a positive tone you can feel for the rest of your day.

Conclusion

In conclusion, weight loss trends will come and go, your focus should be on long-term health and wellness. Align your actions with what makes you feel good and supports your overall well-being. However, I want you to take it a step further by integrating this philosophy into every aspect of your life. Wellness should be a priority both personally and professionally.
